Unit 5
Week 1
1. It's a story Death roaming earth and punishing bad people for there deeds.
2. The story has received a good review, on Youtube its received 582 likes and 21 dislikes.
3. The target audience are teenagers who enjoy reading horror stories or watching horror movies.
4. The story draws peoples attention because of how Death's character is, as well as being devilish he is presented as being somewhat humorous and serious. In the story death speaks formally not using any specific phrases.
5.When Death meets the first character his somewhat humorous side is shown.
6. The sound/music is a combination of the nightmare on elm street them song and a creepy voice. This keeps the audience attention because both the song and the voice actor provides a thrill and fear making the audience want to listen to more.
7. This will inform my radio play as the combination of song and a creepy voice helps to set the scene as well as make it effective.
Week 2
Audio Idea's:
1. Mafia crime/Drama story - Pablo Hernandez was had his family murdered by the Los Muertos Mafia don, later in his life Pablo kills Javier Enrique da Silver becoming the don of Los Muertos. Accident Biography story - A man has lived his life full of adventure and thrill, until one day he goes skydiving out of a cable car and his parachute doesn't open and he crashes braking both his legs, collar bone and suffers multiple ligament damage and ruptures. His doctor tells him he may never walk again which causes him to fall into depression. Unable to take it anymore he asks his lover to end his life but she refuses to live in a world without him and does not do it.
Feedback and analysis of Idea's:
I asked a group of friends what idea they wanted me to do: 4 voted for death, 3 voted for the accident biography and 2 voted for the Mafia crime/drama.
The first story is based off of a anime/tv show called 91 days where a young boy witnesses the murder of his family by the mafia, he later comes back to take revenge on the mafia family.
The second story is based off of a story called Our Demise where death roams earth looking for those who commit sin, taking them to hell where they will be punished.
The third idea is based off of the movie 127 hours but my character becomes paralyzed and asks their lover to end there life as they can't take anymore of the suffering.
Week 3
1. The foley I will need to use is Death's voice, which is meant to be deep and echoing. Next I'll need to get the voice of the primeminister for the moment when Death comes to visit. After that I will need to get the sound of things crashing for the moment the primeminister meets death.
2. Meeting Death foley: Death is playing Ain't No Rest For The Wicked by cage the elephant then enter Death saying 'hi'.

Music: Ain't no rest for the wicked
Plan: The audio play starts with Death Listening to a song, ain't no rest for the wicked. The audio play is about Death and his daily routine of following those who commit sin and are about to die. In the audio play Death tells you about the time he followed a Earl who was known for his Pride. Just before taking it's victim's souls, Death gives them a chance to redeem them self and asks "What is the worth of your soul", if people give a answer it isn't looking for they are thrown into hell. Death is a tall figure around 6ft'3 in a black rob with a hoodie that covers its face, it walks around with a long gray scythe and a lantern that's connected to a chain that's wrapped around it's wrist, the lantern has an illumines green glow, which is the humans souls trapped inside it.
Research
Primary - I came up with three idea's for a audio play, out of all the idea's number two was the most voted for by my class. My target audience are people who enjoy watching horror moves or reading horror stories, from ages 16-20.
Unknown Track - Unknown Artist
00:00 / 00:00
Focus group
Analysis:
Intro - From the recording of my focus group I can conclude that people want me to have a mix of sound effect and music for my intro.
Sound effect - My focus group have said that they wanted a hellish screech to help break away from whats going on and a swing of his scythe when he is punishing someone as well as the sound of bones rattling.
Sound - They all said they wanted Death to have a deep and echoing voice to make him sound less human than he is.
Characters - They all wanted to have diversity with the characters so I will need to have half the characters with different accents to show that off.
Location - Finally I asked where the story should be based England, central America or all around the world.
Secondary - My idea for the audio play came from a religious stand point and a movie called 'Dogma'. I will use these sites to help my build my characters from a religious stand point as they explain the seven deadly sins that I'll be using in the radio play.

The audio book The Demon Spirit use elements of horror and thriller that I will need to consider when making my radio play. At the start it uses the sound of a cricking door to set the scene then the narrator enters. the narrator has a creep voice which helps to give the story more effect. Both these sites give information on the seven deadly sins and how each of them act, this will help me build up on my characters and help me build up Death.
This is a story from a women who had an encounter with Death/grim reaper, she explains that she sees the grim reaper every time someone is about to die and once in her dream the grim reaper appeared. She describes the grim reaper as being six feet tall with a black cloak that covers its face and carrying a scythe. In Greek mythology the grim reaper/Death was presented through the greek god Thanatos who was described to be a violent god with a gentle touch. He's described as having black wings with a mask on his face and carries a scythe.

Character idea's - My first idea is for death to be a 6 foot tall figure with a black robe covering its face, he will have a long scythe with a small lantern attached to a chain wrapped around his wrist.
My second idea is for death to be a small dark figure with around 4 ft tall with a deep echoing voice and a scythe that is 6 feet tall.
My final idea is to have death as a black mist that follows people who sin.
I've looked at two specific Characters to represent Death. The first character is a video game character called Thresh and the other is from greek mythology and a video game, Thanatos.
Thresh has a inhuman personality as he takes a liking to torturing people and harvesting there soul.
Thanatos is a greek god known as 'The hand of Death' he and the god of sleep carry the dead to the underworld Thanatos is also occasionally specified as being exclusive to peaceful death.
Thanatos' accent is an American accent that is deep and somewhat distorted. Thresh has a deep British accent with a echo behind it.
Thresh carries a small silver and green hook with a lantern, both are connected to chains.
Thanatos carries a large black and purple scythe.
Thresh

Thanatos

Setting/Location: It will be set in Nottingham, England in the year 1900. I chose this time period because the person Death is following is an Earl that is opening another business but isn't able to because he is relying to heavily on child labour but the children aren't able to do the work that he needs done. The reason its set in this time is, during the 1900-1950 children where doing adult work and were forced to work long hours for low pay and poor food. This helps build on the earls character because he believes that his business is perfect, the workers are the problem and there is nothing wrong with him or his business.
Target audience: My target audience are teenagers that are aged 16-19 that enjoy Horror/thriller movie. The type of people I am trying to attract are the ones that enjoy the thrill and suspense of a horror movie.
Noises: I will need to collect noises of a phone as well as knocking, foot steps and crows cowing. I will also need to collect background noise of cars and other vehicles moving. I will be playing the role of Death, I will need to edit the sound of my voice once I have finished recording the radio play. For the Earl of Nottingham I will have Conner play that roles.
Radio play:
This is the outcome of the radio play. I used a pitch shifter and delay to create the voice of Death. I used music as the intro to the radio play to make it seem as death was listening to the song. Through towards the end there are various sound effects to give effect to death and who he is. I should have gotten my own foley and used every scene in the play, there was one part that I decided to remove. The idea behind it was, I would play the role of Death who goes around punishing people who commit sin initial it was meant to be a horror story but it didn't turn out as scary as I thought. The target audience was teenagers aged 16-19 who enjoy watching horror movies. In the beginning I used a song called "Ain't no rest for the wicked" as the intro, towards the end I used sound effects such as: hellish screams, laughter and crows cawing.
