Secondary research

Tracers

  • Genre: Crime/Drama

  • USP: Has a known actors from the Percy Jackson series and from the twilight series.

  • The use of fast paced music helps to make the audience feel as if they are also taking part in the movie.

  • The action shots help the audience gain a understanding of what genre the movie is, the genre is show through the shots of the main character learning parkour.

  • The Tittle and credits are placed in front a orange light to give it a fast pace effect.

  • The pace of editing stays slow and steady, this highlights how fast pace the actors will be during the movie and how the story will steadily progress.

In tracer it shows what he main character has had to go through to get into their position, I will use this in my trailer as it will help the viewers to build a connection with the character.

Assassin's creed Movie

  • Genre: Fantasy/Sci-fi

  • USP: Michael Fassbender is an actor who stared in many independent and blockbuster movies such as: X-men apocalypse, 12 years a slave and the light between oceans. As people may want to see their favorite actor.

  • The music has a heavy drum beat when the text appears and when Michael Fassbender is beaten.

  • The shots used in the trailer helps the audience build an idea of the genre.

  • The trailer uses a lot of medium length shots that give

  • information on what the genre is as well as the overall development of the character.

  • The sound track is up beat and adventurous which fits with the shots used to make the trailer.

In the assassin's creed trailer their is a lot of action with minimal dialogue, in my trailer I will show a lot of action shots.

Free runner

  • Genre: Action

  • USP: It is directed to free runners and people that like to watch action movies. It also has an actor from a famous British soup opra east enders

  • The background music is able to add more hype to the movie and get people interested in watching it as it helps add that extra sense of a thrill.

  • The trailer uses a lot of action shots of the actors running, jumping and climbing on things making it feel fast paced.

  • The editing is fast paced to match the actors as they run, climb and jump.

In the trailer Freerunner it shows some action, a lot of titles throughout it and has a lot of dialogue, I'll use a mix of the dialogue and texts during the editing of my trailer.

Primary research:

I went around class and asked students, aged 16-18, whether they wanted to watch a Sci-fi movie of a person trapped in a video game, a documentary on parkour or A trailer for a super hero movie. The results were 5 for Sci-fi video game, 3 for documentary and finally 4 for the super hero trailer.

We tried filming on Monday, however, it was really bad weather and I wasn't able to do parkour in the places I had planned to go to.

Idea's:

1) The first idea is that the trailer will be a Sci-fi movie with CGI, green screen and various effects. It will be set in a some what of an apocalyptic time where the sky's would be a light gray colour and the world would be almost dead with faded plants and run down buildings with the main character fighting to survive.

2) The second idea is for the trailer to be a documentry on parkour, I will do most of the parkour stunts and we would goto parkour gyms to get interviews and have people's opinion on whether or not other people should get involved as well as some back story to what parkour is.

3) The third and final idea was the trailer would be for a video game based movie. The main character is a person trapped in a video game and has no way out, the only option they have is to defeat the final boss.

From this I found out that most people would like to see a video game movie rather than a Sci-fi or documentry. It also shows people would like to see both CGI and practical effects in the movie which i'll have to take into consideration. The results tell me that people would like the trailer to have heavy action over heavy dialogue. The results tell me that some people want to see parkour stunts and some don't so I'll need to be sure not to have too much parkour. Finally everyone wanted intertextual references so I will need to show these when making my trailer.
